Wissa and Toney respond passionately to Rico Henry’s injury update at Brentford

Rico Henry caught the attention of Yoane Wissa and Ivan Toney as the Brentford full-back continues to work back to full fitness.

The 27-year-old has missed the majority of the last two seasons at the Gtech Community Stadium after undergoing surgery on his knee in October 2023, only making 11 appearances since.

Keane Lewis-Potter has filled in brilliantly at left-back, notching five goals and four assists in 77 total appearances over the last two seasons, but the Bees will be excited to welcome the player back.

Those at the Gtech Community Stadium already face a very difficult 2025/26 campaign, with manager Thomas Frank joining Tottenham and Mark Flekken leaving for Bayer Leverkusen.

In addition to those two key exits, Mick Brown told Football Insider that Man United are closing in on a deal for Bryan Mbeumo, and that would be a huge blow for new manager Keith Andrews.

Rico Henry close to long-awaited return from injury

Taking to Instagram (3 July), Henry shared a compilation of his training during the off-season after attempting to return from a season-ending knee injury, simply captioned with battery emojis.

Wissa commented: “Ready now?” with a cookie emoji, to which the full-back responded with a tick and flexed muscle emojis, while Tony replied: “My brudda dattt,” with fire and heart emojis.

Football Insider verdict

Some football fans are already predicting the Bees to be dragged into the Premier League relegation scrap next season, but Andrews will be keen to avoid that during his first season.

Brentford finished 10th in the Premier League table last season, just three spots off a European spot, and Frank’s wonderful work with the squad saw him become the ideal figure to replace Ange Postecoglou.

While a move to North London seems unlikely for Mbeumo, Mick Brown told Football Insider that Tottenham have turned their attentions to Wissa, with Frank attempting to bring his former players with him.

Much like Andoni Iraola’s Bournemouth, who have lost Dean Huijsen, Milos Kerkez, and possibly Illia Zabarnyi, the Bees could end up losing the spine of their team.

Christian Norgaard appears set to join Arsenal following Thomas Partey’s departure from North London, leaving Andrews with several gaps in the squad to fill this summer.

There have been few incomings at the Gtech Community Stadium just yet, but with several weeks until the new season kicks off, fans must be patient for their club to get the right business done.
