Agent of reported Liverpool target makes transfer admission, hints at PL arrival for midfield maestro
The agent of Napoli midfielder Jorginho, Joao Santos, has revealed that his client could be on his way to the Premier League this summer.
Santos stopped short of revealing too many details and stated that the Brazilian born Italian international did not have any official offers on the table for his services.
As quoted in The Sun, Jorginho’s representative said: “Future in England? He has a certain value for Napoli, a certain figure that almost only Premier League clubs can afford.
“He can’t be sold to another club in Italy.
“He’s being followed by big teams and that’s normal because he plays at the highest levels for Napoli, plus we’re talking about an international player now.
“To date, no official offers have arrived. Jorginho’s only thinking about Napoli and we must wait until the end of the season to make certain assessments.
“As for Napoli, we haven’t received a contract offer from them yet. Release clause? I don’t agree with them.”
Liverpool have long been linked with the defensive midfielder and comments like these will only fuel speculation of a move to the English top-flight with Manchester United and Arsenal also interested, as is reported in The Sun.
The Serie A outfit are said to rate the 26-year-old, who has been key to the Italian side’s attempt to usurp Juventus from their reign of supremacy, at £87million.
Football Insider verdict:
It is not the first time Santos has publicly spoken about his client and it seems clear he is attempting to drive a better deal for Jorginho. With his admission alluding to a move whereby only Premier League sides could afford the Italian international, that further narrows down the possibilities and a move to the Reds would certainly make sense. With Emre Can a near certainty to leave the fold this summer, it leaves an opening in Jurgen Klopp’s side for someone of Jorginho’s quality to come in as a replacement. He will not come cheap though so FSG must be prepared to splash the cash with competition set to be high.
