The Reds are set to continue their push towards Champions League qualification this weekend, after they fell to a 1-0 defeat in that competition away at Galatasaray on Tuesday night.

However, Liverpool must first turn their attention towards Tottenham, who will travel north this weekend while continuing to fight for their lives at the foot of the table, and they may be about to face a slightly different Reds XI.

Arne Slot resists Alisson temptation

Alisson missed the midweek trip to Galatasaray with a slight injury issue, and he has been facing a race against time in order to be fit enough to feature this weekend.

Journalist Paul Joyce has since confirmed via his X account that the Brazilian goalkeeper is expected to be back in full training alongside his teammates on Friday, leaving little time ahead of the Tottenham clash.

As a result, Slot may opt to stick with Giorgi Mamardashvili for this weekend’s encounter, as he keeps one eye firmly on the decisive game against Galatasaray next Wednesday.

He will undoubtedly want Alisson fit and ready to start in that match, so it would be no surprise if he resists the temptation to throw him straight back in and instead decides not to risk him against Spurs.

That is likely to be a running theme across his team selection this weekend, as he will want to ensure that his key players are all ready for the Champions League decider.

As a result, Joe Gomez, Alexis Mac Allister and Mohamed Salah could all drop to the bench at Anfield, with Jeremie Frimpong, Curtis Jones and Cody Gakpo coming in from the off.

Slot may value Andy Robertson’s experience in the return leg against Galatasaray, meaning Milos Kerkez could be set to keep his place against Spurs, despite struggling last time out.

The latest on Alisson’s future at Liverpool

Football Insider recently revealed that Alisson is unlikely to leave Liverpool this summer, despite him entering the final year of his contract ahead of next season.

The Reds remain reluctant to lose the 33-year-old amid the ongoing interest from Juventus, and it is also understood that the player himself is still happy with his role at Anfield.

Juventus are facing complications of their own when it comes to striking a deal, as the fee and wage demands for the ex-Roma star would be difficult for them to match, especially without Champions League football.

Luciano Spalletti’s side are currently only on course to qualify for the UEFA Conference League for next term, and that looks set to put paid to any hopes of them being able to prise Alisson away from Liverpool.
