Insider: Club likely to re-sign ‘really exciting’ Bennett from Tottenham

Crewe Alexandra are likely to re-sign J’Neil Bennett from Tottenham once he recovers from his latest injury.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

On Tuesday (7 December) Tottenham confirmed Bennett, 20, has returned to the club after suffering an ankle injury.

He will not recover from the blow before the expiration of his loan deal with Crewe on 1 January.

The winger had contributed one goal and one assist to Crewe’s season in 11 total outings.

Bennett is also out of contract next summer (2022) though Wenham expects Tottenham to agree fresh terms ahead of a fresh loan move in the new year.

“I think Tottenham will look to extend that deal,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“He made his first-team debut against Pacos earlier this season and he is a really exciting young winger.

“I would hope Tottenham will extend his deal then loan him out again.

“It looks like his injury is going to keep him out until early February and his loan at Crewe was set to expire on 1 January.

“I’m sure both clubs would have looked to extend that loan if he had stayed fit.

“I’m hopeful once J’Neil recovers at Hotspur Way he can go back to Crewe on loan.

“I don’t think any party would have a problem with that.

“But Tottenham’s priority here should be agreeing a new deal with him before he goals back out on loan.”

Crewe lie 23rd in League One after a disappointing start to the campaign.

However, they have won their last two games in all competitions.

In other news, 24-year-old is “100 per cent” planning to quit Tottenham in January.
