Newcastle have been handed several blows heading into the EFL Cup final on Sunday (16 March), but their supporters were cheered by Trent Alexander-Arnold news after Liverpool’s defeat to PSG on Tuesday (11 March).
Liverpool were given the worst possible preparation for the upcoming trip to Wembley Stadium after being taken all the way to a penalty shootout only to be knocked out of the Champions League in the process.
However, Newcastle have had an equally tough build-up to their biggest game of the season after Anthony Gordon was suspended for the match.
As one of Newcastle’s star players, his absence is going to be a significant blow, with fans admitting they lost respect for Gordon because of his actions.
Lewis Hall was then ruled out of the match due to a foot injury which has ended his season as he requires surgery on the area.
Hall’s injury adds to a growing pile of defensive frailties as Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles are also unavailable, but it appears that Liverpool now have an injury of their own to worry about.

Not only did Liverpool lose in the Champions League, but they were dealt a significant injury blow as Trent Alexander-Arnold was forced off in the 73rd minute.

During his post-match interview, Arne Slot admitted he would be “surprised” if the full-back was able to play in the final on Sunday, providing a significant blow to his defensive options.

Alexander-Arnold’s injury is one that has left Liverpool fans devastated as they have questioned if he will ever play for the club again as his contract is up in the summer.
It is a positive from a Newcastle perspective though as it weakens Slot’s team, and that’s something the Toon Army were pleased about on Tuesday evening.
