Rangers fans tear into ‘horrendous’ Djeidi Gassama as exit talks underway: ‘Let him rot’

Rangers fans have been left seething with Djeidi Gassama after his poor display against Ferencvaros came just hours after news of interest from Villarreal.

The Gers’ hopes of qualifying for the play-off round of the Europa League are in tatters after they were beaten 2-1 in Hungary on Thursday night, despite Bojan Miovski giving them a first-half lead.

Miovski’s finish was hailed by ex-Rangers star Steven Thompson, who branded his acrobatic effort from close range as “absolute quality,” during BBC Sportsound’s coverage of the game.

However, it was yet another miserable European night for Danny Rohl’s men, and after Gassama was substituted in the 58th minute, it didn’t take long for fans to make their feelings known on social media.

Villarreal to progress Djeidi Gassama contact as Rangers fans fume

Gassama delivered some big moments for Rangers in the early stages of the season, but his form has undoubtedly dipped in recent weeks.

The Frenchman has just one goal involvement in his last 12 competitive outings, and that came as the icing on the cake of a 3-0 win over Dundee back in November.

Gassama has been heavily linked with a move away from Ibrox in recent days, with Villarreal “exploring the terms of a potential deal,” according to journalist Rudy Galetti via his X account.

The Spanish giants have already taken the first step towards a deal by making contact, and they are planning to progress those talks in the coming days.

This coincided with another frustrated display from the former Sheffield Wednesday star, whose performance sparked anger from Rangers fans on X during and after the defeat.

One supporter labelled his attitude as “horrendous,” while another suggested that he should be left to “rot on the bench” along with Youssef Chermiti and Danilo.

There were also suggestions that Gassama is a “liability” for Rohl’s men, while another fan branded him as “lazy.”

Findlay Curtis will be desperate to see Gassama leave in January

Findlay Curtis caught the eye for Rangers in the opening weeks of the season, as the youngster delivered with huge goals against the likes of Panathinaikos and St Mirren.

However, he has been used sparingly by both Russell Martin and Rohl since then, and is still waiting for his first start of the season in the Premiership.

He has played just a handful of minutes under Rohl since his arrival, but was trusted by the German to come on and try and get his team a foothold in the game in the second half against Ferencvaros.

Curtis is a hugely exciting young talent who has shown plenty of desire and endeavour when he has been on the pitch, and he will surely be hoping that Gassama is moved on in January.

The 22-year-old is the main barrier between him and a regular spot in the starting XI, and there are many in the Rangers fanbase who feel that he is already more deserving of that shirt.
