Caicedo and Cucurella react as Sanchez sends message over Chelsea ‘first’

Marc Cucurella and Moises Caicedo have both reacted to their Chelsea teammate Robert Sanchez after he posted a message around the latest developments at the club.

The goalkeeper endured a mixed season at best for the Blues during the 2024/25 campaign, making some costly errors even as his side won the Conference League and qualified for the Champions League.

That had led to some Chelsea fans calling for Sanchez to be sold ahead of the summer transfer window, even with five years remaining on his contract.

For now though, the Spaniard is still at the club, and even deep into the summer, is continuing to play for Enzo Maresca‘s side.

Robert Sanchez reacts to Club World Cup win

While the season is now over for many clubs, the Blues are still in action as they compete in the Club World Cup.

On Monday (16 June), Chelsea kicked off their campaign with a 2-0 win over LAFC, thanks to goals from Pedro Neto and Enzo Fernandez.

That gave the Premier League side the perfect start to the tournament, with Sanchez starting and understandably pleased with the result.

Taking to Instagram to reflect on that game, the 27-year-old wrote: “First game, first W”.

In response, a number of his Chelsea teammates including Caicedo, Cucurella, Trevoh Chalobah and Nicolas Jackson all liked that post.

The Blues will aim to take another step towards securing their place in the knockout stages on Friday when they face Brazilian club Flamengo in their second game of the group stage.

Chelsea goalkeeper needed clean sheet vs LAFC

Football Insider Verdict

Ahead of the game, it emerged that Sanchez still retains some significant support behind the scenes at Chelsea despite some of the fan frustration around him.

That will therefore have put some pressure on the goalkeeper to justify the clubs backing of him amid those questions about his position.

Coming through this game with a win and a clean sheet with have helped with that, albeit LAFC did not give him a lot to deal with.

Even so, he did avoid inviting any further scrutiny on himself, and as the competition goes on, Sanchez will expect to have more chances to prove himself as the level of opposition Chelsea face improves.
