‘Crystal Palace to sell Marc Guehi as major Mateta and Wharton updates emerge’

Crystal Palace appear to have made a decision on the futures of Adam Wharton and Jean-Philippe Mateta ahead of the summer transfer window, reports The Guardian.

Man City and Tottenham are in a race to sign Wharton, but Mick Brown told Football Insider the Eagles “don’t want to let him go.”

Mateta has garnered interest from Man United, with strikers Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee only scoring five Premier League goals this season between them.

Despite interest in both players, the sale of another Palace star may scupper any planned deals for the pair.

In a report from The Guardian, it has been revealed Palace are expected to sell club captain Marc Guehi this summer, after rejecting a £70million offer from Tottenham late in the January transfer window.

If the England international does move on, the Eagles are thought unlikely to consider selling either of Mateta or Wharton.

The French striker is Palace’s top scorer in the Premier League this season, with 12 goals, and has established himself as a consistent goal-getter in recent seasons.

Mateta is currently recovering from a horror-injury, and has been training alone, it is hoped the former Mainz striker will return in time for the FA Cup quarter-final clash with Fulham on March 29.

Crystal Palace must hold firm amid interest in Oliver Glasner and star players

Football Insider Verdict

Crystal Palace are safe from relegation this season, and unlikely to realistically challenge for European qualification through the Premier League.

However, it remains vitally important the club do not become complacent, and remain committed to building around Oliver Glasner.

The Austrian manager has interest from RB Leipzig, and was linked with a move to Bayern Munich last season.

It is easy to forget, given their recent good form, that Palace began the season hovering around the relegation zone.

The good work of Glasner and his side could easily come undone if the club sell the core of their talented team, despite the temptation of receiving large transfer fees.
