Exclusive: Man City race to sign two full-backs as talks get underway

Man City are eyeing deals to sign AC Milan and Juventus stars Theo Hernandez and Andrea Cambiaso in the summer, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that Cambiaso, 24, remains the first-choice for the left-back position and negotiations with Juventus are ongoing.

Pep Guardiola’s side missed out on a January deal for the left-back as they were unable to reach an agreement with the Italian giants.

Football Insider revealed on 27 January that Cambiaso was Man City’s top target in the final week of the transfer window, but Juventus were holding out for a £60million fee.

City have also shown an interest in the 27-year-old Hernandez as Milan have struggled to find a breakthrough in talks over a new contract, which have now stalled.

Real Madrid have also been alerted to his situation after they missed out Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies, who opted to extend his stay in the Bundesliga.

Man City have been in Andrea Cambiaso talks and new details have emerged

Cambiaso’s versatility and ability to drift into midfield has put him at the top of Guardiola’s list of targets, and City have not given up on his signature after missing out in January.

There is a growing expectation that the deal will be agreed in the summer, with many suggesting during the January negotiations that a summer move was already more likely.

Hernandez, meanwhile, has a wealth of experience at the top level having won one Serie A title and one Italian Super Cup with Milan, as well as the Champions League, Club World Cup, Spanish Cup and UEFA Supercup in his time at Real Madrid.

He has also represented France on 36 occasions.

As a result, Los Blancos are keen on a potential return as they look to revamp their back line, although City are prepared to rival their interest.

Ederson exit on cards after Pep Guardiola green light

Amid an influx of incoming signings for City during the January transfer window, there is a growing feeling that players will have to leave in a wide-scale squad overhaul.

One of those players is Ederson, with ongoing speculation about his future at the Etihad given his reduced role in the squad as he has been rotated with Stefan Ortega.

Former England goalkeeper and Saudi Pro League expert Paul Robinson told Football Insider on 7 February that Al-Hilal, Al-Nassr and Al-Ittihad are all interested in a deal.

Guardiola is said to be open to the goalkeeper’s departure, and will move to bring in a new number one if he leaves come the summer window.
