Kristoffer Ajer details Celtic expectations, says what he needs to be 100% on
Celtic defender Kristoffer Ajer believes that he and his team-mates will have to be mentally tough when they head to Ibrox for the Old Firm derby on Sunday, as the fans would expect nothing less.
The 19-year-old Norwegian, who has been outstanding since becoming a first-team regular for the Scottish champions, claims that at a massive club like Celtic good performances are required in every match, and it is no different against Rangers.
“When you play centre-half for Celtic, you are expected to deliver every single time. I need to be 100 per cent ready” the centre-back said, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.
“You need to have the right mentality. You need to be focused. You need to focus on the pitch and not everything else around it.”
Ajer already has experience of the Old Firm clash, having played in the goalless draw at Parkhead in December, so playing in the upcoming derby shouldn’t phase him.
The Bhoys head into the match with a six point lead over their bitter rivals, knowing that a victory – coupled with the game in hand they have – would all but clinch a seventh consecutive league title.

Ajer has the right attitude for this game, which is great to see in such a young player. He has realised quickly that to play for a time like the Hoops you do need to be mentally tough, as any game which isn’t won quickly turns into a crisis. The toughness will be needed at Ibrox where the Hoops will be coming up against a Gers side which are in a very good run of form. However, Ajer sounds like he isn’t going to be intimidated by the atmosphere and he is set to be a massive player on the day for the Bhoys, his battle with in-form Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos could be pivotal to determining the outcome of the match.
