15-goal striker on the road as Tottenham close in on transfer - report
By Derek Smithson
Tottenham are close to securing a deal for Swansea striker Fernando Llorente, according to a report.
The Mail report on their transfer blog (11:41am, Thursday) that the 32-year-old is currently on the road and driving to Spurs to complete a move.
It is understood that the deal is “largely done” and there is an agreement between the two Premier League clubs, which has seen Chelsea miss out on the Spaniard.
However, the report details that Swansea could still pull out of the deal if they can’t land Wilfried Bony as a replacement for Llorente.
Chelsea appeared to be in pole position to sign the 24-time capped Spain international, but he is set to join their London rivals in a dramatic deadline day twist.

Mauricio Pochettino has been looking for a new back-up to Harry Kane and is on the verge of landing an experienced striker.
Llorente is most recognised for his goalscoring in La Liga and Serie A, but proved last with Swansea his worth by netting 15 times in the Premier League.
Football Insider verdict:
Spurs have desperately needed a new forward and Llorente could turn out to be a very smart buy. He is an experienced player that has proven himself at the top level and should be able to cope with spells in and out of the team. The forward netted an impressive 15 times in a struggling Swansea team last year and there is every chance he could better that given service from the likes of Heung-Min Son, Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen. It will also delight Spurs fans that they appear to have snatched Llorente away from bitter rivals Chelsea, who did something similar for Willian back in 2013.
In other Tottenham transfer news, they have made a big decision on Marcus Edwards on deadline day.
