'Looks rusty' - Rangers fans react to midfielder display after win v Dundee

By James Black

Carlos Pena scored his first Rangers goal in the 4-1 win over Dundee at Ibrox this afternoon and Rangers fans couldn’t be happier to see him get off the mark – with some even wanting him in the starting XI for the trip to Partick Thistle on Friday night.

Pena has struggled for fitnes since his summer move from Chivas Guadalajara and fans were wondering if they had been sold a dud with the £2.2m midfielder however his performance against Dundee has given some cause to believe the Mexican international can be a big player this season.

Pena, nicknamed Gullit for an apparent resemblence to Dutch icon Ruud Gullit, has yet to start a match for his new club yet although manager Pedro Caixinha is confident that, once up to speed, Pena will be a fantastic signing for the club.

Here are some of the comments from Twitter:

Pena joined Josh Windass and Alfredo Morelos on the scoresheet at Ibrox as 49,000 fans watched their side dominate the Dens Park side and close the gap on league leaders Celtic to three points.

The midfielder replaced Kenny Miller midway through the second half and could have scored seconds after coming on but failed to hit the target.

Pena did eventually get his goal though after some fantastic work by Josh Windass down the left before the former Accrington Stanley ace pulled the ball back to Pena, who rifled home with ease.

After coming off the bench, Pena played slightly off Alfredo Morelos, which possibly gives an idea into Caixinha’s tactical plans once the midfielder reaches full fitness.

In other Rangers news, Derek Johnstone has urged the Gers to sign this Championship attacker.
