Arsenal make prolific midfielder top target after agreement in place to sign in January – reports
Arsenal are interested in signing highly-rated Schalke midfielder Leon Goretzka at the end of the season, according to a report.
The 22-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and the Mirror claim that Arsenal are targeting him as a replacement for Mesut Ozil.
Schalke have offered the Germany international a new deal, but could sell him in January if he rejects the contract offer.
The Gunners look set to lose star players Ozil and Alexis Sanchez, with both players out of contract at the end of the season.
However, they will face competition for his signature, with Manchester City, Liverpool, Juventus and Bayern Munich all interested too.
A previous report in Don Balon said that Liverpool had an agreement in place to sign the player in January.

Football Insider verdict:
Goretzka would clearly be a good signing for Arsene Wenger, who needs to find a replacement for Ozil as soon as possible. The 22-year-old is building a reputation as one of the Bundesliga’s finest young talents, scoring four goals in nine league matches from midfield this season. The playmaker has also scored six goals in 12 appearances for the German national side. Arsenal singed left-back Sead Kolasinac from Schalke on a free transfer last summer and may try to do the same with Goretzka, who is out of contract at the end of the season. However, the Premier League club may have to sign him in January, with Liverpool, Manchester City, Juventus and Bayern Munich all interested in obtaining his signature.
