COMMENT By Danny Wright
Pedro Caixinha must hand Serge Atakyi his Rangers debut in their season ending trip to St. Johnstone on Sunday.
The 18-year-old should be drafted into the starting line-up in the place of Joe Garner so Caixinha can start building towards the future.
Atakayi, a Finland Under-19 international, was on the bench in the 2-1 loss to Aberdeen on Wednesday night and must play against Tommy Wright’s side this weekend because he could well be one of Ibrox’s most valuable talents if they give him enough game time.
Myles Beerman should also replace Lee Hodson after he sustained an ankle injury mid-week while Jason Holt must come in to axe the out-of-sorts Jon Toral.
Martyn Waghorn’s goal scoring appearance off the bench against the Dons means that he should be given a start instead of Joe Dodoo.
Wes Foderingham should keep his place in goal behind a back four of James Tavernier, David Bates, Aidan Wilson and Beerman.
Holt has to be be joined by Josh Windass in the centre of midfield with Waghorn on the left wing and Barrie McKay on the opposite flank.
Kenny Miller must start in the behind Atakayi in what would be a perfect partnership of experience and youth.
Rangers and St. Johnstone will know that whatever happens on Sunday they are already assured of their current league position.
The Saints are Gers’ closest rivals in the league and it would remain that way if Caixinha’s men get anything less than a win.
In other Rangers news, Chris Sutton has not held back in his recent assessment of the Ibrox boss.
