Teenage sensation should have been Celtic mainstay months ago, deserves his chance now

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers was forced into some weird and wonderful defensive pairings earlier this season with Nir Bitton regularly forced to play out of position in central defence – but the Hoops boss should have put his faith in Kristoffer Ajer.
The 19-year-old has forced his way into Rodgers’ side in the last few months and after the defender’s performances must surely have the Celtic boss questioning why he didn’t give the Norwegian a chance earlier.
Ajer has impressed since becoming a regular starter and continued that with a good showing against Zenit St. Petersburg in Thursday night’s Europa League win at Celtic Park.
The Norway Under-21 international enjoyed a fruitful six-month loan spell with Kilmarnock in the second-half of last season and should have been happy that he had shown Rodgers enough to at least earn an opportunity in the first-team.
Rodgers has finally given Ajer the chance to show what he can do in the first-team for the Scottish champions and has strolled through the majority of games since coming into the starting XI.
While the Celtic manager has seemed unsure of his first-choice defensive pairing throughout the season – even going with a three-man defence at times – it’s pretty clear that the teenage sensation deserves to be part of it.
