24-year-old is underrated: Three things we learned about Celtic in draw v Rangers
By Danny Wright
Football Insider analyses three talking points from Celtic’s 1-1 draw with Rangers at Parkhead on Sunday.
Stuart Armstrong is massively underrated
All the talk about Celtic this season has revolved around the likes of Moussa Dembele and Scott Sinclair, however few people have talked up the 24-year-old. He was brilliant against Rangers, not just for his beautifully hit goal to open the scoring, but his work-rate and ability on the ball showed that he is one of Scotland’s best midfielders. Yet to get an international cap for the first-team, Gordon Strachan has to bring Armstrong into his next squad. The Hoops are expected to get bids for Dembele in the summer but Armstrong is another player they should be worried about losing.
Safe standing is needed across British football
There was a terrific atmosphere at Celtic Park today. Yes, that was a given considering it was a home win for Celtic in a huge Old Firm derby, but the section of the crowd that was dedicated to safe standing looked brilliant and it’s a massive credit to the club for implementing it at Parkhead. Technology and health and safety standards have come a long, long way since the days of the Hillsborough disaster and the FA need to take notice of how well it has worked at the Glasgow club. Compare Sunday’s atmosphere to that of any Premier League game; whether it’s Manchester Untied versus Liverpool or Tottenham against Arsenal – it’s completely unrivalled.

Moussa Dembele is human after all
Celtic’s impressive season has been massively shaped by the brilliant goalscoring form of Dembele in his debut season in Scottish football. On Sunday though, the 20-year-old was not at the races at all. He scored five goals in three games against Gers before this latest result but didn’t look anywhere near to his best as he was easily coped with by what has been a very poor Rangers defence this season. Brendan Rodgers’ side’s reliance on Dembele was probably the reason they failed to take all three points, however there were some definite problems in midfield on Sunday.
In other Celtic news, Neil Warnock has said what he believes has transformed this in-form 27-year-old.
