Liverpool 25-year-old arrested on Christmas Eve - report

By Matt Farr

Liverpool attacking-midfielder Roberto Firmino has been arrested and charged with drink driving, according to a report.

The Independent have claimed that the Brazilian was stopped by police in the early hours of Saturday morning, and charged with the serious offence.

He is expected to appear in court on Saturday December 31, the same day that Liverpool go up against title rivals Man City, which raises doubts over his availability.

Firmino has been an important player for the Reds this season, contributing six goals and six assists; although he has struggled of late, and has failed to provide either a goal or an assist since the 6-1 victory over Watford on November 6.

Liverpool go up against Stoke on Wednesday, and it remains to be seen whether Jurgen Klopp will consider dropping Firmino from his side following the offence.

Klopp banished defender Mamadou Sakho from the first-team set-up at the start of the season over his attitude and behaviour, and Firmino could land himself the same treatment. Sakho has not featured for Liverpool since.

The Reds are already without the injured Philippe Coutinho, who should return in the new year, while star forward Sadio Mane will be heading off to the Africa Cup of Nations with Senegal, and will be absent for at least several weeks.

The Reds are currently second in the Premier League, six points behind leaders Chelsea. They are the league’s highest scorers with 41 goals.

In other Liverpool news, goalkeeper Loris Karius has made this team of flops for the season.
