26-year-old Aston Villa star named in EFL team of the week

By Aramide Oladipo

Aston Villa midfielder Conor Hourihane has been named in the English Football League team of the week following his excellent performance against Norwich City on Saturday afternoon.

The 26-year-old scored a sensational hat-trick, his first for the club, as Steve Bruce’s men picked up their first victory in the Championship this season with an entertaining 4-2 win over the Canaries at Villa Park.

Villa forward Andre Green also found himself on the scoresheet in the weekend encounter.

Hourihane’s wonderful performance helped ease the pressure off manager Bruce as Villa climbed up to 16th in the Championship table.

The midfielder was the only Villa player selected in the EFL team of the week which was revealed on their official website on Monday afternoon for the third matchday of the campaign.

The Republic of Ireland secured a permanent move to Villa Park during the January transfer window and he contributed with one goal and three assists for the club last season.

Hourihane’s strikes were essential for the club who received heavy criticism for their midweek match against Reading where they suffered a 2-1 defeat.

The midfielder could potentially feature for Villa in the midweek League Cup tie against Wigan Athletic on Tuesday night.

In other Aston Villa news, this long-serving midfielder has decided to quit Villa Park this summer.
