26-year-old axed in Rodgers 4-2-3-1: Celtic best possible XI v Rangers

COMMENT By Harvey Byrne

Brendan Rodgers should axe striker Leigh Griffiths from his line-up to face Rangers in the Old Firm Derby on Saturday.

The 26-year-old started upfront in Celtic’s midweek clash against Ross County, but he struggled to make an impact on the match resulting in him being brought off around the hour mark.

This should then see Moussa Dembele return to the starting eleven for Griffiths.

The young French ace bagged a hat-trick in the 5-1 victory against Rangers in September and he would cause serious problems to a shaky Gers back four.

Celtic have been blessed with no new injuries going into the match, meaning they can select one of their strongest line-ups for the Old Firm Derby.

Rodgers should refrain from making any other changes to his team with the rest of the eleven performing so valiantly against Ross County.

Goalkeeper Craig Gordon will be eager to keep his fourth consecutive clean sheet and he should be protected by Mikael Lustig, Erik Sviatchenko, Jozo Simunovic and Emilio Izaguirre.

The Hoops defence boasts the best defence in the Premiership with just 13 goals conceded from their 19 fixtures, while also helping to maintain an unbeaten record.

They should be protected by captain Scott Brown and young emerging star Ryan Christie in the middle of the park, who will be looking to help their side control the match.

Rodgers must then name James Forrest, Stuart Armstrong and Scott Sinclair, in the attacking midfield three, who can all prove devastating to opposition defences on their day.

It is sure to be an enthralling encounter and one which could potentially see Rodgers’ outfit move 19 points clear at the top of the table.
