'I can handle what’s being said' - 26-yr-old sends message to Rangers fans after quitting Ibrox

Former Rangers defender Danny Wilson has sent a message to Ibrox fans thanking them following his surprise January transfer to Major League Soccer’s Colorado Rapids.
The 26-year-old quit Ibrox to complete a move to Colorado last month to join the likes of Seba Giovinco, Bastian Schweinsteiger, David Villa and Gio dos Santos in the American league.
Wilson came through the Academy at Rangers, making his first-team debut at 17, before moving to Liverpool shortly after breaking into the side before returning to Ibrox in 2015.
The defender is the youngest Scot to play in the Champions League and has lifted every possible domestic trophy for the Light Blues over his two spells.
Wilson revealed his pride in his achievements at Ibrox – and thanked fans for all of their support.
“I think I can be proud of what I’ve achieved with Rangers,” Wilson said, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.
“I came through the academy and won everything at youth and first-team levels. I’ve played in the Champions League.
“I can handle what’s being said about me, but it’s your family who find it the hardest. They hear and read things about me and it hurts them.
“The vast majority of Rangers fans have been great with me. I’ve had many wish me all the best since it broke I was going to Colorado. I thank them all.”
Wilson made 108 appearances over his two spells at Ibrox and was a mainstay in the side under Graeme Murty after Pedro Caixinha’s sacking in October.
The former Liverpool defender lifted the Scottish Premiership, Scottish Cup, Scottish Challenge Cup and Scottish Championship as well as playing in the Champions League as a teenager for the Gers.
With the defender’s contract up at the end of the season, the Light Blues hierarchy let him move on in January without any fight.
