27-year-old gets 8/10: West Ham players rated on chances of England call-up
COMMENT By Will Butcher
Gareth Southgate will have plenty to consider when it comes to selecting his England squad, with four West Ham players set to be at the forefront of his mind.
The Hammers have two England internationals in their side in Aaron Cresswell and Andy Carroll, while Michail Antonio and Mark Noble could also be considered.
With March’s upcoming fixtures against Germany and Lithuania on the horizon, Football Insider rates the Hammer stars that could be given a chance in Southgate’s squad.
Mark Noble – 2/10
The Hammers captain has endured a sticky patch in form this season, coinciding with a disappointing West Ham campaign throughout 2016-17. Scoring just five goals in his 31 league and cup encounters, the midfielder is a shadow of the player that helped his boyhood club finish in a lofty seventh place last season. Unable to gain a call-up last time round, it seems highly unlikely Noble will be given a chance.

Michail Antonio – 5/10
It’s harsh on arguably West Ham’s best player this season. Antonio has been in fantastic form for Slaven Bilic’s side, scoring nine goals and laying on five assists during his 34 outings. However, the former Nottingham Forest attacker faces stiff competition from the likes of Theo Walcott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Jesse Lingard, Adam Lallana and many more Premier League stars, and that could see him miss out.
Andy Carroll – 7/10
The target man is closer to a call-up for one of the first times since his last England appearance in October 2012, after scoring four goals in his last six outings. The former Liverpool and Newcastle striker also scored January’s goal of the month with a wonderful overhead kick against Crystal Palace, and looks back to his best. Offering something different, Southgate could be tempted to chance his arm on Carroll.
Aaron Cresswell – 8/10
Although not showing his best form, Cresswell’s call-up could be because of necessity. Tottenham’s Danny Rose is currently out injured, while Man United’s Luke Shaw remains a doubt. Arsenal’s Kieran Gibbs has struggled for game time as he continues to play back-up to Nacho Monreal, and that could allow Danny Rose to join Southampton’s Ryan Bertrand as Southgate’s two options.
