Rangers 29-year-old makes claim after reported effort to offload in Jan window
Rangers striker Eduardo Herrera has claimed he is living out his dream playing for the Ibrox giants despite reportedly being set to return to Mexico.
Herrera joined the Gers in the summer from UNAM Pumas for £1.5million and, according to the Scottish Sun, could make a quick-fire return to Liga MX with Santos Laguna as the club tries to offload him for £1million.
The nine-times capped Mexican international has only scored twice for the Gers in 22 appearances and holds the dubious distinction of being the most used substitute in the Scottish Premiership so far this season.
Despite his limited opportunities so far, Herrera believes the Rangers fans are the “best” he has seen and admits he hopes to repay them with good performances on the pitch.
“The fans are impressive, the best I’ve seen, it’s a passion that overflows for the team and one as a player thanks and hopes to respond,” Herrera said, as quoted by the Evening Times.
“One of the dreams is to play in Europe and I’m living it, but for now I do not think about that (return to Liga MX), I signed three years with Rangers and I’m still two and a half years to go.”
Herrera played in the second-half of Friday’s win over Atletico Mineiro in the Florida Cup and it was Herrera’s cushioned pass which teed up Josh Windass to score the only goal of the game.
The former Pumas striker is expected to be involved again when the Light Blues take on Corinthians in the second of two games in the Florida Cup as the Gers bring their winter training camp to an end.
Graeme Murty’s side return to domestic action on January 21st when the travel to tiny Bellslea Park to face Highland League minnows Fraserburgh in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup.
In other Rangers transfer news, it has been reported that Gers are homing in on a top flight player who wants to move to the Ibrox.
