‘Huge news’ – Pundit reacts to ‘devastating’ Oliver Skipp update at Tottenham

Oliver Skipp’s continued Tottenham absence is a “far bigger blow than people think”.

That is according to ex-Premier League goalkeeper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider ahead of Spurs’ clash against Everton on Monday.

Manager Antonio Conte revealed at his pre-match media conference, as cited by Football London (1.39pm) on Friday that Skipp, 21, will miss the match once again due to injury.

He is “still have pain with a groin problem”, explained the manager, and “is still not ready” after the club had expected him to initially be back earlier.

Skipp has missed the last seven Spurs matches in all competitions, five in the Premier League and two in the FA Cup.

They have yielded four defeats – three in the league – and he has been sorely missed during the last six weeks.

“Losing Skipp for such a long period is a far bigger blow than people think,” Kenny told Football Insider.

“His energy, dynamism, work rate, ability on the ball, these are things that Antonio Conte really rates, as he usually picks him when he’s fit.

“It is no coincidence that Spurs’ results have been mixed, and pretty poor, while he has been out.

“Losing him for the next match is huge news, devastating really, as he helps make the team tick.”

Skipp has been a mainstay of the Spurs team since completing an outstanding season on loan at Norwich City last term.

Described by ex-boss Jose Mourinho as “phenomenal”, he has made 14 league starts among 28 appearances in all competitions this season.
