‘49ers to bankroll Leeds United signing spree after stunning £120m move’

Leeds United are preparing to spend big this summer following a behind-the-scenes move at Elland Road.

The Yorkshire giants spent the past two seasons in the Championship after being relegated from the top flight in 2023.

However, Daniel Farke’s side have earned promotion back to the Premier League after claiming the Championship title this season.

The Whites will be forced to pay out close to £20million in promotion bonuses following their return to the top flight.

Finance expert Stefan Borson told Football Insider Leeds could face profit and sustainability (PSR) issues following those bonuses.

Under the Premier League’s PSR rules, top-flight clubs are allowed to lose £105million over a rolling three-year period.

Leeds posted a record-breaking Championship revenue last season despite seeing their turnover fall from £189.7million in 2022-23 to £127.6million, while the club’s losses increased from £33.7million to £60.8million.

Leeds chief reveals spending plan after stunning twist

Majority owner 49ers Enterprises is looking to take Leeds to the next step after securing their return to the Premier League.

Football Insider revealed on 7 May Leeds will have a £150million budget in the upcoming summer transfer window as they look to cement their place in the top flight.

The Whites are determined to avoid the same fate as last season’s promoted sides after Ipswich Town, Leicester City and Southampton have all been relegated.

Speaking to the BBC on 4 May, chairman Paraag Marathe discussed the club’s ambitions following their title success.

He said: “Together we are going to build the best squad we can, with every penny we are allowed to spend to be competitive in the Premier League.”

Leeds’ owners have already made a behind-the-scenes move to provide extra funding after The Athletic reported on 19 May they will issue around £120million of new shares in the club.

It said investors have been told the nine-figure influx will be put towards Elland Road’s redevelopment and the summer transfer window.

Leeds could agree Callum Wilson deal

Farke looks set to have a much bigger budget than the majority of the sides promoted to the Premier League in recent years.

The 49ers clearly recognise the importance of strengthening their squad as they look to do everything they can to keep the Whites in the Premier League.

Football Insider revealed on 21 May Leeds are weighing up a move for Callum Wilson as he looks set to leave Newcastle United this summer.

The 33-year-old, who has 88 Premier League goals to his name, is out of contract at St James’ Park on 30 June and will be available on a free transfer.

However, the forward has struggled with persistent injuries in recent years and has registered just one goal in 21 appearances this season.
