49ers to bankroll Leeds United spending spree – Kieran Maguire
The 49ers Enterprises will back Leeds United financially so they can spend this summer if they fail to return to the Premier League.
That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that the American owners at Elland Road will fear “backlash” from fans if they fail to invest in the transfer window.
Leeds narrowly missed out on automatic promotion to the Premier League this season with Ipswich Town and Leicester City pipping them to the top two spots.
The Yorkshire side will now have to rely on the playoffs as their last available route back to the top flight.
Football Insider revealed on 27 April Leeds could potentially be hit with a points deduction if they fail to pay back the £190million worth of transfer fees they owe to other clubs, with £73.6million of that total due to be paid by the end of June this year.
Leeds United will be backed by 49ers in summer window despite £190m issue
Maguire admitted that the owed transfers at Leeds is a “serious issue” but believes the 49ers will make sure the club can invest this summer.
“Leeds United have got a lot of players out on loan this season which could cushion the blow of not being in the Premier League,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.
“So that’s something which they will have to negotiate their way through next season.

“Leeds do have a serious cash flow issue in terms of what they owe to other clubs for previous signings so that will stop them spending big this summer unless they sell.
“But I think the 49ers are too big of a brand to not give the club appropriate levels of support and they will know that there will be backlash if they fail to do so.“
