6ft 2in ace has played last Spurs game: Three things we learned about Tottenham from Tues draw
Time’s up for Toby
Alderweireld was recalled to the starting XI for the match, as Pochettino rested Davinson Sanchez and Eric Dier, who could have filled in at centre-back, dropped down to the bench. The Belgian acquitted himself well alongside Vertonghen, but that doesn’t mean he will start against United in Saturday’s mouthwatering clash. Alderweireld, who had not even made the matchday squad in the last two months despite being fit for a big chunk of that time, is very much behind Sanchez, and probably Dier, too, in the centre-back pecking order as he pays the price for snubbing a new contract. With a summer exit inevitable, the time is virtually up on his Spurs career. This is likely to have been the 6ft 2in mainstay’s last match for the club.
In other Tottenham news, it can be revealed that the club have been handed a stunning £52million windfall.
