Jorgen Strand Larsen has point to prove against Newcastle amid crazy Wolves record

Jorgen Strand Larsen will look to play a key role in ending Wolves’ dismal run against Newcastle United on Saturday.

Strand Larsen was the subject of interest from Newcastle in the summer transfer window as the Magpies looked to replace the want-away Alexander Isak, who joined Liverpool on deadline day.

A deal never came to fruition for Strand Larsen as Newcastle signed Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa instead.

The Norwegian forward will now be hoping to show Newcastle what could have been as Wolves travel to Tyneside on Saturday.

Wolves aim to end Newcastle run

According to the BBC, Newcastle have lost just two of their 20 Premier League games against Wolves, winning seven and drawing 11, giving them their lowest defeat percentage against any side they’ve faced at least 20 times in the Premier League.

Extending the record beyond the Premier League’s inception, Wolves have won just one of their last 22 top-flight visits to Newcastle, drawing seven and losing 14 of their trips to the North East.

The game also looks set to be a goal-fest for Newcastle’s new attacking duo, with Wolves only keeping two clean sheets in 43 away games at Newcastle in England’s top-flight.

Wolves and Newcastle have both had less than ideal starts to their 2025-26 Premier League seasons, with the West Midlands club the only team without a Premier League point this season.

Newcastle have drawn two of their opening Premier League games, as well as losing a high octane 3-2 affair against Liverpool.

Both sides languish in the bottom four of the Premier League, and the two sides will aim to catch up lost ground on their competitors, starting this weekend.

Wolves at risk of the drop as newly promoted sides stake claims for survival

Wolves’ concerning form extends beyond this season, with Vitor Pereira’s side only picking up one point from their last seven Premier League games.

As the international break ends, Wolves fans will take note that despite being pointless so far, teams up to 13th have three points, meaning a win could propel Pereira’s side up the Premier League table and park their early season woes.

Wolves’ start to the season

With Sunderland, Leeds and Burnley all picking up early season wins the positions of Wolves, Brentford, and other established Premier League sides is in increasing peril.

The trend of the three promoted sides head straight back to the Championship seems unlikely to continue this season, and Wolves will hope they aren’t one of the teams to fall foul of that.
