Aaron Cresswell could be offered new role to stay at West Ham – sources
West Ham defender Aaron Cresswell is set to depart the club this summer but could be offered a player-coach role to stay, sources have told Football Insider.
The defender’s contract expires at the end of the season, but there is still the possibility he remains at London Stadium.
It is believed that Cresswell is keen to continue his playing career and wants to remain in the Premier League.
It is unlikely that the left-back will be offered a new one-year playing contract by West Ham as his game time has dramatically reduced this season.
The 34-year-old was close to a move to Wolves last summer but the clubs could not agree on a price.
Aaron Cresswell could stay at West Ham in new role
However, the Hammers could make a move to keep him at the club following nearly 10 years of service.
He was a regular for the Irons last season having made 31 starts in all competitions, including both legs of their Europa Conference League semi-finals on the road to their historic win.
This season, he has made just seven appearances – his last coming from the bench in their 6-0 thrashing against Arsenal last month (11 February).
A left-back by trade, Cresswell has been firmly ousted by Emerson Palmieri this season, who has started 25 of their 27 Premier League games this season.
David Moyes’ side could also see another defensive exit this summer, with Football Insider revealing (28 February) that Nayef Aguerd could become one of the highest-profile players to quit the club.

West Ham are seventh in the Premier League following their 3-1 victory against Everton on Saturday (2 March).
They are next in action away against SC Freiburg in the last-16 of the Europa League on Thursday evening (7 March).
