Aaron Ramsdale and James McAtee send identical responses to Alex Scott’s ‘enjoyable’ message

Alex Scott was given a new nickname by James McAtee and Aaron Ramsdale after England Under-21s’ victory over Spain.

Lee Carsley‘s side produced their best performance of the 2025 Under-21 European Championships to beat their 2023 final opponents 3-1 in Slovakia, and will now face the Netherlands in the semi-finals.

McAtee and Harvey Elliott scored two quick-fire goals within five minutes of each other in the opening quarter of an hour, and Elliot Anderson‘s penalty proved to be the clincher in second-half stoppage time.

England’s squad for the tournament has undergone plenty of change with Liam Delap opting to play in the Club World Cup after his move to Chelsea, but Carsley’s side are well placed to retain their 2023 title.

Scott sends six-word message after England v Spain fallout

Although England were 2-0 up inside 15 minutes against La Roja, they were still made to work for their victory after Javi Guerra‘s penalty reduced the deficit before half-time and set up a cagey second period.

Anderson’s penalty in the 94th minute sealed the win for England, but the controversy wasn’t done there as Napoli‘s Rafa Marin was sent off a minute later and a post-match brawl erupted between the players.

Bournemouth’s Scott played with strapping on his chin after an elbow from Aston Villa’s Tyrone Mings resulted in a broken jawbone for the midfielder, and sent a message on Instagram (21 June) at full-time.

After Scott posted a photo of the melee in question and said; “very enjoyable way to go through”, Aaron Ramsdale and England goalscorer McAtee responded with; “Some chin strap” and “yes chin strap” respectively.

Scott and Ramsdale set for Bournemouth reunion?

Football Insider Verdict

Several members of Carsley’s squad will be on the move this summer – some such as Delap already have been – with McAtee set to leave Man City after he was left out of their Club World Cup squad.

Scott could begin next season with his “chin strap” nickname still intact, but it’s unclear how much of Bournemouth‘s current team will still be intact with a plethora of potential exits on the cards this summer.

Andoni Iraola will be on the hunt for a new goalkeeper this summer after Kepa Arrizabalaga‘s return to Chelsea, and with Bournemouth keen on bringing Ramsdale back to the club, he could soon join Scott at the Vitality Stadium.
