Aaron Ramsdale, Sam Johnstone: Wolves in advanced talks to sign keeper
Wolves have pulled the plug on their pursuit of Aaron Ramsdale and are instead in advanced talks to sign Crystal Palace’s Sam Johnstone, sources have told Football Insider.
The cash-strapped Midlands club have been put off by the cost of signing Ramsdale on loan and are now close to landing Johnstone.
Palace have given the green light for the 31-year-old to leave Selhurst Park, and he is on standby to undergo a Wolves medical in the next 48 hours.
The former West Brom goalkeeper has fallen down the pecking order at Palace and is now considered a backup option for the club.
Dean Henderson has been preferred to Johnstone this season, having played every minute so far.
Johnstone is under contract at Palace until 2027, but the Eagles are ready to cash in on him this summer.
Wolves are pushing to bring in Sam Johnstone over Aaron Ramsdale
Wolves had been monitoring Ramsdale this summer as the England international is keen to leave Arsenal after being deemed surplus to requirements.
The attention has now turned to Johnstone, who brings plenty of experience after making 396 appearances throughout his career.
66 of those have taken place in the Premier League where he has managed to keep 15 clean sheets.

Wolves are also closing in on the signing of St Mirren teenager Ethan Sutherland this week.
In other news, Wolves could have greater spending power to make new signings.
