Aaron Ramsdale tipped to join Liverpool in shock move – expert
Aaron Ramsdale could replace Caoimhin Kelleher as the backup goalkeeper to Alisson at Liverpool if he leaves Arsenal this summer.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson explained that Ramsdale will want to join a top Premier League club, with a move to Chelsea also a possibility to become their number one.
It was explained that, given the amount of game time Kelleher was afforded in the season just gone, the England keeper should view the move as a step up from his position at Arsenal.
Ramsdale, 26, is expected to depart the Emirates in the upcoming transfer window after making just 11 appearances all season, with only six coming in the Premier League.
Kelleher, meanwhile, will have the opportunity to leave Anfield to become the first-choice elsewhere.
Arsenal’s shot-stopper had been linked with a move to join former manager Eddie Howe at Newcastle, but Football Insider reported that the deal would not happen as he would not play backup to Nick Pope.
Liverpool could sign Aaron Ramsdale in Arsenal transfer news
Football Insider reported on 24 May that Kelleher has a big decision to make over his future amid interest from Celtic and multiple Premier League clubs.
Robinson, meanwhile, explained that Ramsdale could fill his place at Anfield and provide competition to Alisson while receiving plenty of first-team football himself.
“I don’t think Aaron Ramsdale will move abroad, I think there’s a move for him in the Premier League,” he told Football Insider.
“The one that stands out is Chelsea. Petrovic and Sanchez don’t seem to be at the level you want. That’s where Chelsea are at.
“You look at other teams in the Premier League and he’d fit into most teams. I can’t see Newcastle happening with Pope there. Would Brighton be interested?
“If Kelleher leaves Liverpool, there’s an opportunity for him to go and be a number one with Alisson.
“Look at the amount of games Kelleher has played this year, compared to Ramsdale, there’s an opportunity there to have more game time and prove himself.

“Aaron Ramsdale has got to go somewhere and he’s got to play.
“He’s been harshly treated at Arsenal. I think the way Arteta handled the situation was wrong.”
