Aaron Ramsey: Pundit 'fears the worst' for Rangers after confirmed update

Alex McLeish has admitted he “fears the worst” for Rangers without the likes of Aaron Ramsey and Alfredo Morelos in the starting XI.

The former Gers manager, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the Wales international has become a “very important” part of the puzzle at Ibrox.

Ramsey, 31, remained an unused substitute in Thursday night’s 1-0 defeat away at Braga.

As quoted by the Scotsman (7 April), Giovanni van Bronckhorst revealed the Wales international was fit but that he wanted to make use of his “big squad”.

McLeish insisted Ramsey has looked “very sharp” after playing for Wales during the most recent international break.

He suggested the Light Blues lose a “key player” when the 72-cap international does not play.

McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “I feel that he’d probably be at a good point (fitness-wise) right now. I really do.

He’s played for Wales, keeping that momentum going for them, but his bread and butter is Rangers. He looks at a state of fitness where he’s back looking very sharp again.

“In this run-in, the cup semi-final, I can’t stress how important it is for every Rangers player to be at their top level.

“It’s about individuals enhancing your team. Ramsey’s just part of the jigsaw but, at the same time, a very, very important part.

“We’ve said if you lose key players, you can sometimes fear the worst.

“Losing Morelos, you can see how badly missed he was. They rely on Morelos a lot.”

Ramsey has played seven times for Rangers since joining on loan from Juventus in January.

He has scored twice, including in the 2-1 defeat to Celtic on Sunday.
