Abdoulaye Doucoure sends message after David Moyes’ Everton contract reaction

Abdoulaye Doucoure has taken to Instagram to provide an update on his situation amid speculation surrounding his future at Everton.

The club’s move from Goodison Park to a new stadium on Bramley-Moor Dock will not be the only big change for the Toffees this season.

Everton face having to make decisions over the futures of multiple players this summer, when their contracts on Merseyside are due to expire.

One player who finds himself in that position is Doucoure after the Toffees elected not to trigger an extension clause in his contract earlier this season.

Football Insider previously reported that Everton are instead set to renegotiate terms with Doucoure, although so far, no announcement over a new deal has been made.

The player himself recently revealed he is yet to begin those talks with the club over a new deal, while also suggesting he does not believe he deserves a pay cut if he extends his deal.

David Moyes spoke publicly on the subject this week, shrugging off Doucoure’s suggestions while pointing out the midfielder is no “spring chicken” and highlighting the need for other cover in the squad [BBC Sport].

On the pitch, the 32-year-old was absent from the matchday squad as Everton were held to a 2-2 draw by already relegated Ipswich last weekend.

However, Doucoure was not out of the action for long, quickly returning to training ahead of Saturday’s (10 May) clash with Fulham at Craven Cottage.

Despite the uncertainty around his future with the club, that was something he was seemingly still pleased about.

Taking to his Instagram story on Friday evening (9 May), the Everton midfielder posted a picture of himself in training, along with the caption: “Good to be back with the squad.”

Football Insider Verdict

It would feel like a missed opportunity for the David Moyes‘ side if they do not agree a new contract for the 32-year-old this summer.

He has a big influence on this team, and there results seem to dip noticeably when he is unavailable or out of form, highlighting his influence on the side.

Indeed, Doucoure recently showed his worth to Everton with a last minute winner at Nottingham Forest, with a brilliaintly taken goal that showed how big a loss he could be to the club.

If he was to depart, you imagine there would be no shortage of interest in him either, which could leave the Toffees feeling as though they have lost out even more if he joins a rival.

With that in mind, agreeing a new contract with Doucoure seems like an important move for Everton to make this summer.
