Abdoulaye Doucoure sends message to Everton fans after Curtis Jones bust-up
Abdoulaye Doucoure took to social media to send a message to Everton fans after being sent off in their dramatic 2-2 draw with Liverpool on Wednesday followiong his bust-up with Curtis Jones (February 12).
The 32-year-old picked up a second yellow card after the final whistle for his role in a scuffle between the two sets of players in the final Merseyside derby at Goodison Park.
Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones confronted Doucoure for celebrating James Tarkowski’s added-time equaliser in front of the away supporters.
A scuffle broke out between the two sets of players leaving referee Michael Oliver with no option but to give both players their second yellow cards, and the clubs are likely to be charged for their failure to control the players.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider former PGMOL chief and ex-FIFA official Keith Hackett believes the police will likely get involved after a bottle was thrown from the Everton stands, striking Jordan Pickford among other players.
Arne Slot and his assistant Sipke Hulshoff were then sent off after the Dutchman appeared to say something to Oliver while shaking each other’s hands, with Hackett praising Oliver for how he handled the situation.
Abdoulaye Doucoure the centre of attention after goading Liverpool players
The central midfielder has been integral for Everton so far this season, starting 23 of his 25 games across all competitions, scoring two goals, and providing zero assists in his 1924 minutes of action.
Everton fans were unhappy with Doucoure’s performance throughout the game, with some suggesting he should be allowed to leave the club in the summer.
Doucoure doesn’t seem to be too concerned about missing their game against Crystal Palace, after picking up his second yellow, taking to Instagram to simply say: “GOODISON PARK.”

David Moyes has overseen an impressive turnaround since replacing Sean Dyche earlier in the season, winning three, drawing one, and losing two of his six games at the helm.
Everton will travel to South London for their next Premier League game on Saturday (February 15) as they seek to put further distance between themselves and the relegation zone.
