Absolute bargain: Twitter reacts to reported Everton imminent arrival

By Alex Taylor

Everton are close to signing Ashley Williams from Swansea after reportedly agreeing a £12million deal with Swansea – and fans on Twitter welcomed the imminent arrival.

Sky Sports claimed on their transfer centre blog (12:08pm) that Swansea skipper Williams would travel to Merseyside on Tuesday afternoon to undergo a medical ahead of signing a two-year deal.

The 31-year-old skipper, who captained Wales throughout their impressive Euro 2016 campaign, is said to have made his farewells at training this morning and will be confirmed as a Toffees player in the coming days.

The Swans captain is set to sign on a two-year deal and will be new Everton boss Ronald Koeman’s fifth summer arrival after the capture of Idrissa Gueye, Chris Renshaw, Bassala Sambou and Martin Stekelenburg.

The move resembles a good piece of business for both clubs, as Stan Collymore recently indicated for Everton, whilst Swansea are sea to make an £11.6million profit on the man who moved to the Swans from Stockport on a £400,000 deal.

With John Stones joining Manchester City earlier on Tuesday for £47.5million, Williams would be seen as a direct replacement for the young England international.

Swansea are attempting to soften this blow on fans by securing the signature of Borja Baston from Atletico Madrid, who is understood to have agreed a £15m move to the Liberty stadium and will be flying in for a medical on Tuesday night, according to the Sky Sports website.
