‘Absolute disgrace’ – Man United fans destroy Ruben Amorim for what he said vs Wolves: ‘Sackable offence’
Ruben Amorim is back under crushing pressure at Old Trafford after Man United failed to beat Wolves on Tuesday.
The Man United boss had stunned Eddie Howe with his change of formation over the weekend, but when welcoming the Old Gold, he reverted to his tactics that had seen his side slip down the table.
Unsurprisingly, Man United struggled against Rob Edwards‘ side. Despite an opener from Joshua Zirkzee, the visitors had a whole host of chances on 30 December, with Ladislav Krejci finally equalising.
Patrick Dorgu was at fault for losing his man, and he would have certainly known about it after the full-time whistle, but many of the supporters chose to place the blame at Amorim’s feet instead.
He chose the lineup, he made the changes, and with Jack Fletcher replacing United’s goalscorer at the half-time break, it is safe to say that the supporters will not be forgiving him anytime soon.
Man United fans in disbelief over Joshua Zirkzee substitution
Zirkzee had scored the opener, got in some good positions, and appeared to be driving the attack forward. That was clearly not enough for his frustrated manager, though.
Gary Neville was baffled by the substitution, believing that it must have been due to an injury. After full-time, however, Amorim confirmed that it was purely a tactical decision at Old Trafford.
As well as labelling the decision a “sackable offence” and an “absolute disgrace,” supporters were left with more questions than he had answers to, with one fan suggesting that the hierarchy needs to be involved.
- @Sadique_08: “It’s stupidity. Nothing like tactical. He shows the fans he doesn’t know what he is doing.”
- @dannyphillips87: “Embarrassing. A senior player subbed who got the goal. Throws Fletcher on as a 10 when he’s not a 10. Left Shea Lacey on the bench when he’s a 10. Then he brings on Mantato, plays him in the 10, and puts Fletcher in midfield. It just gets worse.”
- @samhain1: “That decision should be looked at by the hierarchy.”
Zirkzee’s performance in numbers before Ruben Amorim makes tactical switch
During his 45 minutes on the pitch, Zirkzee was accurate, scoring with his only shot, while also creating a chance, completing 100 per cent of his dribbles, and winning two of his four ground duels [FotMob].
The Dutchman also made two clearances, showcasing his desire to get back and defend, though there was very little he could do as Krejci hit the back of the net on the stroke of half-time.
Of course, Zirkzee has been linked with a Man United exit ahead of January, and this will do nothing to fill any parties with confidence that his future lies at Old Trafford this season.
The 24-year-old only has two goals in his 12 Premier League appearances, taking his total to nine since arriving from Bologna, and it remains to be seen where he might be for the second half of the campaign.
