Liverpool fans took to social media to share their disappointment over Nathaniel Clyne being ruled out for a further three months due to injury.

The Reds confirmed that Nathaniel Clyne has suffered another injury set-back and has undergone back surgery to address the issue.

The defender has not featured this season for Liverpool after picking up an injury in the pre-season friendly against Tranmere Rovers on July 12.

Jurgen Klopp revealed two weeks ago that the right-back had returned to light training  and was in the next stage of his recovery before this latest development.

The set-back is a blow to Liverpool but it also has damaged Clyne’s claim to be a part of Southgate’s England squad for the World Cup in the summer.

The defender won’t be able to feature for Liverpool until February at the earliest, so will have limited time in which to impressed Southgate.

Clyne has been at Anfield since July 2015 after he made the move from Southampton.

Since being at the Reds, the defender has made 93 appearances, scored two goals and grabbed five assists.

In his absence from the team, Klopp has opted to alternate between Joe Gomez and Trent Alexander-Arnold as his choice of right-back.

Here are some of the best reactions to Clyne’s injury woes:
