Darren Bent has been left raving over Tottenham youngster Japhet Tanganga as the club close in on agreeing a new contract deal with him.

The former Spurs and England striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, insists that the 20-year-old defender looks to have it all in his locker and that tying him down would be a great boost for the club.

As revealed exclusively by Football Insider, the Lilywhites are close to finalising a deal after seeing the versatile centre-back turn down their offer back in November, with significantly improved terms for the starlet.

The youngster has leapfrogged the likes of Danny Rose in the pecking order in north London this season, with the England international moving on loan to Newcastle United in search of regular first-team football.

Bent says that getting the hot prospect tied down to a new contract is an important bit of business for the club after seeing him make a big impact since his breakthrough into the senior side.

“He’s been absolutely fantastic,” Bent told Football Insider.

“He’s got everything, he’s been absolutely fantastic since breaking into the side under Mourinho.

“He thoroughly deserves it.”

Since making his debut in the shock League Cup defeat to Colchester United earlier this season, Tanganga has now played seven times for Spurs, his first Premier League outing coming against runaway leaders Liverpool.

He has shown his versatility, playing at right-back, left-back and at the heart of the defence during his fledgeling career.

In other Tottenham news, it can be REVEALED that the club are prepared to sell a left-footer for a major loss this summer.
