‘Absolutely massive’ – Matt Le Tissier drops Scottish title verdict after Hearts, Celtic, Rangers latest

Hearts winning the Scottish Premiership would be huge for the integrity of the Scottish Premiership after their brilliant start to the new season put giants Celtic and Rangers in the shade.

That is the verdict of Premier League legend Matt Le Tissier, who has exclusively told Football Insider that he felt Hearts fully deserved their recent win over Celtic and hopes they go on to win the league this season.

Hearts have started this season in fine form and currently sit six points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership with Celtic and Rangers both in disarray, even though interim manager Martin O’Neill led his team to a 4-0 win over Falkirk on Wednesday night.

Regardless of other teams’ struggles, the capital club have been excellent in their own right with no losses in the league as yet following a recent win over the second-placed Hoops.

Derek McInnes was recently linked to the Rangers job before they appointed Danny Rohl, but he is in it for the long-term at Tynecastle and could lead the club to a historic title win this season.

Hearts have been unstoppable so far this season

Brighton owner Tony Bloom bought shares in Hearts in June and implemented his analytical and data-led approach into the club’s transfer strategy.

Bloom claimed that Hearts can win the title in the next 10 years upon his arrival at the club, and that certainly looks like a realistic aim considering their stellar start to the 2025-26 campaign.

Aberdeen were the last club outside of the Old Firm to win Scottish football’s top division back in 1985, but Jambos boss McInnes has played down his side’s chances of maintaining their current form.

Following Hearts’ 3-1 win over Celtic on Sunday (26 October), he said: “I think it’s a long, long way to go. If this was after the second round of games, and we were sitting in the position we’re in, then it might be a wee bit more difficult for me to sit here and say what I’m saying. But at the minute, it’s easy to say what I’m saying.”

Le Tissier backs Hearts for title win and insists it would be great for the Scottish Premiership

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former England and Southampton striker Le Tissier admitted that he would like to see Hearts win the league this season and that the Scottish top flight needs a “shot in the arm” after so many years of Old Firm dominance.

He said: “I think it would be absolutely massive for Scottish football, to be honest with you. I mean, how many years has it been since somebody other than the Old Firm won the league? It’s a crazy amount of years.

It is incredible what’s gone on there. And this [win vs Celtic] wasn’t a fluke either. This is a good win by Hearts. They dominated in terms of the amount of shots that they had, the amount of shots on target. So it wasn’t a fluke.

“They’ve got a decent gap there, and I think people will just be starting to believe that Hearts can do it.”

“I hope they continue, because it would be a real shot in the arm for Scottish football if somebody could go in and shake up the Old Firm. It’s been way, way overdue.”
