Danny Mills gushed about Manchester United attacker Daniel James and admitted the Welshman’s success had surprised him this season.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the ex-England international admitted he never expected James to do as well as he has for Man United.
The 22-year-old winger joined Man United in the summer from Championship outfit Swansea City and has already racked up 21 appearances for the club.
Mills explained that he never doubted James’ quality but didn’t think he would have been able to keep up his red-hot form for quite so long.
When asked whether he is surprised how James has taken to the Premier League like a duck to water, Mills told Football Insider: “Oh definitely, in days of old he would have come into Man United and would have been eased into things.
“He’s almost gone into Man United and carried them at times, he’s been that good you’d have to say.
“He’s been absolutely superb with what he’s done and he’s offered.
“Surprised of his quality? No. Surprised that he has settled in so quickly and been able to maintain that? Probably yes.
“Because often you have that adrenaline rush from being a new player, but he seems to have continued his good form and he’s really starting to become one of the first names on the teamsheet.”
James has racked up three goals and registered five assists for United so far, with his three goals coming in his first four Premier League outings for the club.
The 22-year-old, who has six caps for Wales, managed to score five goals and register 10 assists for Swansea City in his 2018/19 campaign across the 38 appearances he made.
