Adam Wharton ‘internally discussed’ by European giants, Crystal Palace approach depends on one thing

Crystal Palace ace Adam Wharton continues to be linked with a big move away from the Eagles, though a switch to Real Madrid hinges on one condition.

Wharton was wanted by Man United among a host of club’s throughout the summer transfer window, but the 21-year-old remains in South London.

The midfielder was called up to the latest England squad, but had to withdraw from the squad due to injury.

Wharton had started all of Crystal Palace‘s matches this season, which included qualification to the Europa Conference League for the very first time.

Real Madrid latest club to consider Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton

As per The Athletic [8 September], Real Madrid are continuing to line up a move for Wharton.

Real Madrid have been a ‘constant presence’ at Crystal Palace to keep an eye on Wharton’s progress.

The Athletic reported that “internal club talks” have been held around signing a new midfielder with Kees Smit of AZ Alkmaar also mentioned, though “no profile was agreed upon at that meeting.”

Crystal Palace value Wharton at £100m, which would give the club a huge profit on the fee they paid Blackburn Rovers in 2024.

Oliver Glasner though will be relived that Wharton stayed at Selhurst Park after losing Eberechi Eze to Arsenal, and the lack of transfer activity that transpired at the club throughout the summer.

Los Blancos approach depends on Dani Ceballos sale

However, any more for Wharton depends on Real Madrid selling a fringe player first.

Real Madrid were looking at selling Dani Ceballos during the summer window, however a move did not occur despite talks with French club Marseille.

Former Arsenal midfielder Ceballos is behind the likes of Jude Bellingham, Eduardo Camavinga and Aurelien Tchouameni in the pecking order, stars Wharton would also be battling with for a place in the starting XI at the Spanish giants.

Wharton would be joining England stars Bellingham and Trent Alexander-Arnold at the Bernabeu, and would be expected to settle in quickly at one of the world’s most demanding club’s.
