Adam Wharton told to snub Man City move – ‘he won’t get in the team’

Man City are currently in the middle of a rebuilding period as Pep Guardiola aims to get his team back to competing for the Premier League title and one potential target is Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton.

City have had an underwhelming campaign on all fronts, as they currently sit fifth in the table as they are fighting for Champions League football.

Guardiola’s men have also been knocked out of the EFL Cup and the Champions League with the FA Cup being their only hope of earning silverware this season.

The defending Premier League champions made multiple signings during the January transfer window in a bid to change their fortunes, and it is believed that they will be busy in the summer transfer window as well.

Industry insider Mick Brown revealed to Football Insider that City’s scouts are monitoring Palace midfielder Wharton after his return from injury, as they want to assess his level of performance.

The 21-year-old has impressed ever since he broke into the Palace team, and City believe he could be a long-term replacement for Rodri moving forward.

Adam Wharton isn’t at Man City’s level

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson revealed he’s “not so sure” the Palace midfielder is ready to replace Rodri in the City midfield.

I don’t know he’s at that level,” Robinson told Football Insider.

“I mean, he’s a good player, don’t get me wrong, he’s a good player. He’s forced his way into the international side.

“But as far as a long-term replacement for Rodri or a Manchester City level, I’m not so sure.

“I mean, you put him in that Manchester City squad now, he doesn’t play.

“Where Pep Guardiola is right now in his career, he’s building Manchester City for an instant turnaround, he’s not building Manchester City for the future.

“Somewhere like Crystal Palace where he’s going to get his game time, he’s going to play every week, he’s not necessarily going to do that at Manchester City.

“Can he go on to bigger and better eventually? Yeah, I do, but I don’t think there’s any harm or it would hamper his career in any way, shape, or form by staying where he is for a couple of seasons.”

Crystal Palace aren’t in a rush to sell Adam Wharton

City might be looking at Wharton ahead of a potential summer move, but Football Insider revealed that Palace will not be under pressure to sell Wharton.

The England international is under a long-term contract at Selhurst Park that runs until June 2029, putting the Eagles in a strong position ahead of any potential negotiations.

City will also face competition to land Wharton’s signature as it is believed that Tottenham are also interested in the midfielder.
