Adam Wharton’s likeliest next club named as Crystal Palace set asking price

Adam Wharton looks to be set to join several key Crystal Palace figures in leaving the club in the coming months.

Marc Guehi signed for Man City last week, with the Eagles securing £20million for a player who was set to leave on a free transfer in June.

The England international is the second key player to leave Selhurst Park in the last year, after Eberechi Eze joined Arsenal in August.

Jean-Philippe Mateta looks set to leave Palace in the coming days, while several others are expected to follow him out the door in the summer window.

Arguably, the biggest loss will come in the dugout, where Oliver Glasner has confirmed he will be leaving Palace in the summer.

Bookies’ favourite for Adam Wharton as asking price set

Wharton has been a revelation since signing for Palace from Blackburn Rovers in 2024.

The 21-year-old has caught eyes with his superb ability to avoid the press, and fantastic eye for a pass from the base of the midfield.

While his teammates have struggled this season, the England international has largely retained his level, although frustrations came to the fore on Sunday.

Palace lost 3-1 to Chelsea, marking an 11th consecutive game across all competitions without victory.

Shortly after the Eagles went 3-0 down, Wharton’s anger got the better of him, and he picked up two quick-fire bookings to get sent off.

While it would take something extraordinary to see the midfielder leave in this window, his future at Palace now looks increasingly foggy.

According to The Guardian, transfer chiefs at Selhurst Park will start the bidding for Wharton at £65m in the hopes of prompting a battle between the interested clubs.

One major bookmaker has named Man City as the favourite at 8/1, with Man United at 15/2, Real Madrid at 9/1 and Liverpool at 12/1.

What has Oliver Glasner said about Wharton?

Glasner was appointed just 19 days after Palace signed Wharton, and the midfielder has never left the Austrian’s preferred team.

Speaking about him in November, Glasner said: “I’m massively pleased with Adam’s progress. I would have acted a little like Roy Keane. He’s my generation and we grew up a little differently.”

“Adam Wharton should stay Adam Wharton” the manager added. “He should show his strengths. Yes, develop all the other skills to become a top player in the world.

“He’s still 21, I’m pretty sure he will develop all these skills to become a top player in the world.”

The question that faces Wharton is where will he take those next steps?
