Adrian agrees Liverpool deal after breakthrough – sources

Adrian has agreed the terms of a new Liverpool contract, sources have told Football Insider.

The Spanish goalkeeper’s current deal expires at the end of June.

But he has finalised an extension following talks with the club and will remain with the senior squad next season.

Jurgen Klopp has given the green light to the 36-year-old remaining as back-up to established number one Alisson Becker.

However, the future of Caoimhin Kelleher is up in the air, with the Irish shot-stopper potentially leaving Liverpool this summer.

Football Insider sources first revealed on 18 May that Adrian had opened talks over a new contract.

Adrian joined Liverpool in 2019 on a free transfer after falling out with management at West Ham – he spent six years with the Hammers but became frustrated with his lack of playing time in London.

However, Adrian had played second fiddle to Alisson at Liverpool after he made a £66million move to Anfield the year prior.

In his four years at the club, Adrian has been handed just 26 appearances for the Reds – he has conceded 36 goals and kept seven clean sheets in that time.

His only appearance this season came in the Community Shield, where Klopp named Adrian in the starting line-up against reigning champions Manchester City.

Adrian played the full 90 minutes at Wembley and helped the Merseysiders to a 3-1 victory over their fierce rivals.
