Agbonlahor: Andy Robertson facing extended spell on Liverpool sidelines after reveal

Andy Robertson may struggle to win his place back in the Liverpool starting XI when he returns from injury, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England forward insisted “something’s going on” at Liverpool as he questioned all members of the defence.

The Reds shipped four as they lost 4-1 to Napoli in their opening Champions League group game last week (7 September).

Robertson started out in Italy and provided the assist for Liverpool’s goal but suffered a knee injury towards the end of the game.

As quoted by the Athletic on Monday (12 September), Jurgen Klopp revealed the 27-year-old felt the injury the day after the game and will be out until after the international break “at least”.

As a result, he was left out of the Scotland squad for their upcoming Nations League games with Ukraine and the Republic of Ireland.

“If [Kostas] Tsmikas does well he’ll keep his position, I feel that Robertson has been poor all season,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“Something’s going on at that club because they’ve gone from one of the best defences in the world to now, the keeper’s not making the same amount of saves, the right-back doesn’t want to defend, the centre-backs looking shaky and the left-back is not the same player.

“There’s something going on there and it must be a worry for Jurgen Klopp.”

Tsimikas has replaced Robertson in half of Liverpool’s six Premier League games across this season.

The Greece international, 25, was rewarded with his first start in the 0-0 draw with Everton earlier this month – the Reds’ final Premier League game before October.
