Gabby Agbonlahor is not convinced Aston Villa will look to re-sign Tammy Abraham from Chelsea.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer suggested a potential move could hinge on Wesley’s form when he returns to fitness.
The 23-year-old enjoyed a fruitful loan spell at Villa Park during the 2018/19 season as his goals helped fire the Midlands giants back to the Premier League.
He remains a popular figure amongst Villa fans but Agbonlahor has insisted he does not think it is likely Dean Smith will pursue a reunion.
“It’s very tough,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“Yes, it would be a good signing. But I can’t see Chelsea letting him out on loan and it would be a very big fee.
“Wesley’s coming back from injury so it could depend on his form in the last 10 games. You’ve got Watkins there as well.
“If you’re signing Abraham, you’re signing him to start so where does that leave Watkins?
“It’s something that Villa might look at but if the fee’s too much I don’t see them doing it, to be honest with Wesley and Watkins already available.
“Teams don’t really play two up front now.”
Wesley could return to the Villa squad for the first time in over a year this weekend after featuring in a bounce game during the international break.
