Aston Villa

The return of the Aston Villa fans to Villa Park will hand the players a big boost, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer insisted the Villa players will want to end their season on a high despite the fact Sunday’s result will have no effect on their league position.

Villa Park will welcome 10,000 fans back for the visit of Chelsea on Sunday – the first time Villa have played in front of their home crowd this season.

Speaking ahead of the game, Dean Smith told Birmingham Live the presence of the Villa faithful will give his squad extra motivation.

For many of Smith’s key players, it will be the first time they have experienced the atmosphere.

Emiliano Martinez, Ollie Watkins and Bertrand Traore were all signed last summer while games where played behind closed doors.

“I think it will be good for the players,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“The fans will be desperate to be there and the players will enjoy playing in front of the fans.

“It’s going to be a big game. Chelsea still need a result to get into the top-four. There’s a lot riding on the game.

“I’m sure the Villa players will be looking forward to it. You always want to go out on a high on your last game of the season, especially at home.”

Chelsea currently sit in third, one point above Leicester City and Liverpool meaning a win will guarantee a top-four finish.

Earlier this season, the Blues drew 1-1 with Villa at Stamford Bridge.
