Agbonlahor: Aston Villa have major 'edge' over Newcastle after Smith reveal

The return of fans to a full Villa Park will give Aston Villa the “edge” over Newcastle United on Saturday, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer also insisted Villa have a better team than Newcastle.

Villa Park will welcome a full house this weekend for the first time since Villa lost to Tottenham in February 2020.

Dean Smith revealed in his pre-Newcastle press conference today (20 August) that the fans will “drive the players on”.

The Midlands giants got their season off to a bad start after they were beaten 3-2 to newly-promoted Watford on the opening day.

“It was Watford’s first game back in the Premier League with a full house, they were always going to be favourites for that game,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“Like, Brentford were favourites against Arsenal and a lot of teams.

“Teams playing back in front of their fans will have that edge. Aston Villa will have that edge over Newcastle. They’ve got a better team for one.

“A full house at Villa Park, those players who have signed in the last two years haven’t played in front of a full Villa Park. I’ve got no worries at all.

“Dean Smith hasn’t had his best team available. If Watkins was available he’d play Watkins and Ings with Bailey and Buendia. If they were all fit, he could play all of them and really go at Newcastle with attacking players.

“I’m sure they’ll put things right on Saturday.”

In other news, Aston Villa have been tipped to rake in “big profit” on 2019 signing amid a £17million update.
