Agbonlahor: Aston Villa tipped to reject £60m bids for McGinn and Mings

Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed Aston Villa would reject £60million bids for Tyrone Mings and John McGinn.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer insisted the club are in a strong position to keep hold of the pair.

Mings and McGinn were standout players for the Midlands outfit as they finished 11th in the Premier League last term.

The Athletic reported on 22 June McGinn has caught the eye of Jurgen Klopp but Liverpool were put off by Villa’s £50million valuation.

The Reds are in the market for a new midfielder after Georginio Wijnaldum left the club to join Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer.

“For Aston Villa, they know they don’t need the money so they can just price everybody out,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“Say if somebody wants Mings, they can say ‘give us £60million’, if someone wants McGinn it will be £60million. If it’s Grealish they’ll want £100million, £120million.

“Put bids in at your own peril. They can price clubs out. Even if they got those figures, they still wouldn’t sell McGinn or Mings for £60million.

“Clubs are just wasting their time if they bid for any of these players because they’re not going to sell them.”

McGinn, 26, has played 111 times across all competitions for Villa and missed just one Premier League game last term.

Mings, 28, has featured in 91 games across all competitions for the club and missed two league games last season.

Both players were called up to the national teams, Scotland and England, respectively, for this summer’s European Championship.

In other news, there has been a big update on Aston Villa’s bid to lure James Ward-Prowse from Southampton.
