Gabby Agbonlahor has insisted Aston Villa need to sign a new winger and attacking midfielder in the summer.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Villa captain delivered his verdict after the club’s summer transfer plans were revealed.
Villa had arguably the best transfer window in the Premier League last summer when they added four players on permanent deals who have all established themselves as regular starters.
The performances of Matty Cash, Ollie Watkins, Bertrand Traore and Emiliano Martinez have meant the club’s fans have started dreaming of European football.
Despite performances and results faltering in the absence of Grealish in recent weeks, Villa are still within touching distance of the top six.
And therefore Agbonlahor believes there are only two areas the club desperately need to strengthen.
He told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “I think they probably need to get another winger, for me.
“Get another winger who can be more clinical in the final third and take players on.
“Maybe another attacking midfielder, I’d go for.
“A top-class attacking midfielder and a winger. Apart from that, I think they’re fine everywhere else.”
One summer signing, Ross Barkley, on loan from Chelsea, has arguably been a flop in the Midlands after an impressive start.
Since returning from injury in January he has not found his old form and was dropped to the bench despite Grealish’s absence.
